Blacknight CEO Elected to IEDR Policy Advisory Committee
Michele Neylon takes one of four registrar positions
Blacknight CEO Michele Neylon has been elected as a representative to the IEDR Policy Advisory Committee, joining three other registrars in an advisory capacity to Ireland’s Domain Registry.
In total, four registrars have been elected as representatives to the IEDR’s PAC (Policy Advisory Committee). They include, Michele Neylon (Blacknight), Kelly Salter (Register365), Jonathan Bate (Hosting Ireland) and Conor Moran (Irish Domains). The IEDR has created a policy development process (PDP), which is designed to function as bottom-up and consensus-driven. This means that any stakeholder can raise request a policy change and, if there is consensus among stakeholders, the policy change can be implemented.
The advisory committee is put in place to represent the needs of the Irish Internet community as well as the greater local infrastructure community. Blacknight CEO Michele Neylon states: “As Ireland’s leading domain registrar, we have been very involved with the IEDR throughout our company’s history. We are honoured to have been elected to the PAC and are committed to working through the issues that impact all registrars that carry .ie domains.”
The PAC will include representatives from other organisations that have been recognised as “eligible” including: Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR); Department of Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation; The Office for Internet Safety (an Executive Office of the Department of Justice and Equality; Irish Internet Association (IIA).
Neylon continues: “We are in good company with all of the registrars and infrastructure organisations that are involved in the IEDR PAC. I am personally optimistic that as a group, we will be able to do a lot of good in terms of maintaining and improving the health of .ie domains.”
IEDR announced the formation of the PAC at the end of July this year, and it is hoped that it will hold its first meeting in Q4 2014. Initial agenda items include the possible availability of two character .ie domains as well as whether the private sale of .ie domains should be introduced.
